Martinson

I work as a filmmaker

Founder of Visio Film AS. Nine years of documentary, commercial and drone work for clients from local businesses to Disney. Before and alongside the camera: IT systems, engines, and a decade of teaching kids how to fall properly. I build things, fix things, and finish what I start.

How I operate

01 / About

Most of what I know, I learned by doing it without a safety net. I've serviced engines and swapped gearboxes with no workshop behind me, built and shipped websites end-to-end, run a film company solo through nine years of client work, and rebuilt my own washing machine bearings because paying someone else felt like skipping the interesting part.

That pattern isn't an accident — it's the whole method. If a thing can be understood, it can be fixed, and if it can be fixed, I'd rather do it myself.

The other half of my working life has been people: seven years assisting a person with cerebral palsy through daily life, three years as an assistant teacher, and over a decade coaching parkour to everyone from third-graders to adults. Technical work teaches you precision. Care work and coaching teach you patience and how to read a room.

I'm useful in the space where those overlap: calm under pressure, quick to find a way through, precise with hardware, straight with people. When a plan breaks mid-shoot or mid-repair, that's usually where I do my best work.

I have ADHD. Years of doing the work and paying attention to how I actually think have taught me to lean into what it gives me — pattern-spotting, fast problem-solving, real energy for the thing in front of me — and to build structure around the parts it doesn't. I've stopped treating that as a weakness to hide and started treating it as one more system worth understanding.

The Ride

04 / Proof of concept

Summer 2014. A 13,000 km motorcycle trip across twelve countries — two riders, three weeks, and months of planning behind it. I rode my Suzuki DRZ 400, custom-modded for the trip: down through Denmark, Germany, Czechia, Slovakia and Hungary, over the Transfăgărășan in Romania, along Turkey's Black Sea coast into Georgia and up into Caucasus mountain towns only reachable by offroad vehicles, then through Chechnya and Russia and home via Estonia. Demanding, exciting, and a genuine character test in every sense — the kind of thing you only get through by planning hard and staying level when the plan falls apart.

05 / What keeps me sane
UNDER THE BAR

Strength

Years of barbell work, currently sitting at a 200 kg squat and a 250 kg deadlift. Not a competition thing — the barbell is just where I learned that progress is boring, incremental and non-negotiable. Everything else on this page runs on that engine.

SINCE 2006

Boxing

Twenty years of gloves, bag work and sparring. It eventually crossed into the day job too — one of Visio Film's documentary projects follows the Norwegian-Lithuanian boxer Mindaugas Gedminas.

Fire & Food

Co-running K-Table by K-Town, a Korean BBQ pop-up, together with my DOP. Turns out running a grill for a full house and running a film set use roughly the same muscles.

Different arenas, same method: pick something hard, break it into pieces, keep showing up. That's the skill underneath every other skill on this page.
